Chicago, Burlington & Quincy RR
Have you heard of the 1947 Friendship Train?
Post-WWII, France and Italy were experiencing food supply crises. In 1947, the U.S. developed the Friendship Train to collect food and other much-needed items to send to France and Italy. In addition to providing aid, the train was also a symbol of goodwill and friendship. Every U.S. state contributed goods to the train, and the items were then shipped overseas.
