Christmas layout-- David Wingrove

Posted by John Brady on

Continuing with our blog series featuring customer's layouts for our holiday contest, we are now featuring David Wingrove's Christmas themed layout!

David sent us these pictures of his O scale layout and Lionel trains. He explained that for him, model railroading has become a lifelong hobby, starting from when he was very young. He has been adding to the layout for years:

"The scenery is our Christmas town, I have added buildings to it over the last 12 years or so. My favorite piece by far is the spray foam mountain with a tunnel cut into it; ever since I was young I enjoyed watching my Polar Express train go into the tunnel."

All train layouts are a work-in-progress, as you can always find room for new buildings and scenery! Train layouts always have a story behind them as well:

"This train set was my Pap's, he started with hardly nothing but a small ho scale train when I was a kid and I instantly took a liking to his trains. Over the years I’ve got involved in helping him build the layout from the mountains we made from spray foam to the houses and trains. The layout constants of Lionel trains, 7 of them to be exact. This layout holds a special place in my heart as my pap unfortunately passed away last March"

David shared that his favorite memories of the hobby involve working on the layout with his Pap, who introduced him to model railroading:

"My favorite memory about this set is spending the time with my pap and how much he enjoyed this and how much he loved Christmas time. It's a good way to keep his memory going to keep the trains up and running."
Thanks, David, for sharing your story with us!

We at Brady's Train Outlet always enjoy hearing about our customers' layouts and love of trains. Send us pictures and a description of your layout, or share a favorite memory about model trains, and you might win a special prize this month!
