Special Feature: Roanoke Valley Model Railroad Club Visit

Posted by John Brady on

Continuing our blog series offering layout ideas and inspiration, we are spotlighting the Roanoke Valley Model Railroad Club!

This club is located in Roanoke, a mid-size city in Southwest Virginia that had its start as a railroad boomtown! Roanoke was the headquarters of the now-defunct Norfolk & Western Railway, with their machine shops also located in the city. Learn more about Roanoke here and here

In April, one of our employees visited the Roanoke Valley Model Railroad Club's open house.

The club has layouts in N Scale, HO Scale, O scale, and Tinplate, as well as smaller layouts that are interactive and portable. This club's layouts has been featured in multiple publications, including O Gauge Railroading Magazine!

In one magazine article, members of the club share how to make buildings from scratch using materials from a craft store or home improvement center.

Do you have a model railroading club or layout near you? Be sure to visit them if you do! Model railroad clubs are a great way to get involved with fellow enthusiasts and learn more about the hobby.
