Modern spherical storage tanks that you see today, with welded steel panels (as opposed to riveted panels), date back to the 1940s. These tanks, also called Horton spheres, hold liquefied gasses such as LP gas, propane, and butane (among others). The spherical shape was found to be ideal for holding liquefied gasses for multiple reasons, including its resistance to heat transfer, as well as its resistance to thermal expansion and boil-off of the contents inside.

This Sinclair® storage tank is an eye-catching accessory that every train town needs. The globe is painted matte white and is beautifully adorned with Sinclair® logos on the front and back. Complimenting the white dome are accent details like safety yellow railings and green platforms. The beams and diagonal braces are painted to match and include multiple safety and warning signs. Up top, you’ll see a pressure relief valve and wheel.
