The ultimate development of the Northern type on the Union Pacific, the FEF-3 class is one of the finest examples of 4-8-4s to be found anywhere. These fast and powerful machines powered both heavy passenger and fast freights from 1944 until the end of regular steam operations. The class was so successful that Union Pacific chose No. 844 to carry on the tradition of steam in special service and has never retired the locomotive. It speaks not only to the power of the locomotive but also its versatility and utility compared to other well-known UP steam. Back in the Lionel catalog for the first time since 2015, the FEF-3 is the perfect stablemate for your Big Boy and Challenger! Of course, we're bringing back 844 in her most popular paint schemes as well as adding some new ones.
