Manufacturer Information:
Purpose-built for use on tourist railroads and routes with exceptional scenic beauty, open-sided excursion cars provide a more exhilarating, sensory experience, allowing passengers to feel the wind as the train moves, smell the smoke from the locomotive, and hear the whistle as they traverse the landscape. For railroad operators, these cars are also cost-effective, utilizing existing frames and trucks from freight cars. This model represents cars found on the historic Cass Scenic Railroad. Operating over a former logging railroad, the Cass Scenic Railroad uses original mountain-climbing steam locomotives such as Shays, Climaxes, and Heislers to transport passengers from the former company town of Cass, West Virginia, to the peak of Bald Knob, almost 5000ft above sea level.
