Manufacturer Information:

The amazing bathtub gondolas are back, featuring two new popular road names as well as sequentially numbered add-on cars for last year's CSX and BN 3-packs. Both the Burlington Northern Santa Fe and Conrail made extensive use of these cars in their unit coal trains. Although both were based on the Johnstown America design, the Conrail gondolas used special corrosion resistant steel in their construction. Both make use of rotary couplers to aid in unloading long coal trains. The new 3-packs make handsome companions to the new BNSF Dash 8 or a new Conrail SD80MAC found on pages 40 and 44 respectively.    All Lionel Bathtub Gondolas feature our revolutionary rotary coupler (patent pending), which allows these cars to perform in O gauge the same way that they perform in real-life. Designed for use with the Lionel Rotary Coal Tipple, these cars allow you to unload a unit coal train just like the nation's biggest carriers. You can unload your entire train without ever uncoupling the gondolas.
